BRET HARTE ACADEC TEAM QUALIFIES FOR STATE

In earning 39 medals at the Tuolumne Calaveras Regional Academic Decathlon the Bullfrogs out-scored their cross-county rivals Mountain Oaks to be qualified to be considered to represent Calaveras County in the 2016-17 Academic Decathlon State Competition March 24-27.

“Of course we are really proud of these kids,” stated co-coach Jennifer Truman.  “This is a great group of kids who have spent many hours preparing for this day.”

The triumph of the day was the sweep by the Bret Harte Honors team in the Essay competition earning all three medals.

“All three of these students are academically strong,” said Truman.  “And when they saw that the essay prompt had to do with Executive Order 9066 they were confident they would do really well because it is a topic we spent an extended amount of time studying.”  The students had just finished reading the book Farewell to Manzanar in their English class as well as visiting the site on a field trip there this past October.

The biggest haul for the night for the Bullfrogs came from Varsity team members with Junior Claudia Loomis and and Junior Raen Kuykendall both earning 7 medals and senior Jacob Stockburger who earned 8 medals.

The team of 15:  4 seniors, 10 juniors, and one sophomore are co-coached by Bret Harte Math Teacher Timothy Randall and US History Teacher Jennifer Truman

Applications are sent out in the opening packet to each student prior to school starting. The applications are on bright orange paper. If you are interested in applying for this benefit, please fill out the application and return it to the cafeteria. Please make sure all data is complete. IF there is data missing it will delay the processing of your application.

All students need to re-apply for this benefit. If your child/ren were enrolled at Bret Harte last year, they will receive a grace period of 30 days to resubmit your paperwork. IF at the end of the 30 days you do not reapply, your child will be deleted from the program. If your child was not enrolled at Bret Harte last year, then there is no grace period for that child. Until that child’s application is approved, they must bring their lunch or purchase food. If you had a child at Bret Harte last year and another child will be starting this year, the child that was here last year will have a grace period. Your other child will not have a grace period.

Once the application has been processed, a written letter will be sent in the mail to you. When the Food Service Director receives the application, turn around time for evaluating an application is no more than 10 days. If the application is missing information, you will receive a phone call. The application will not be completed until you respond to the phone call. This could delay the process past the 10 days.
